Earlier this year, Instagram discovered that a small number of user passwords may have been exposed as a result of a security bug.  The bug was part of a feature that came out in April which allows users to download all of their data.

Some users who took advantage of the new feature had their passwords put into a URL in their browser causing the passwords to be stored on Facebook’s servers.

The company urges anyone who used the feature to change their password, but their passwords were not exposed to the public and only affected a small group of people.

The bug has been resolved and any users whose passwords may have been exposed as a result of the bug have been notified.
