Shopping at Walmart just got a lot more fun with the launch of the superstore’s AR scanning feature.  Now iPhone users can see prices and rating on products throughout the store, simply by panning their phone across the shelves.

The technology was developed during an internal Walmart hackathon.  Their goal was to build a scanner that did more than simply compare product prices.

The feature is available through the Walmart app.  Once you’ve opened the app you point your camera at the desired shelf.  Then, as you move your iPhone to each item, it will show you the product information including, name, price, and star rating, as well as reviews on Walmart.com.  The app even shows you related products.

Walmart now joins Amazon and Target in their use of AR technologies.  Target has started using AR studio to allow users to try on makeup using AR.

The feature is currently limited to iPhones that run at least iOS 11.3.  Users must also have the latest Walmart iOS app, at least 18.20.
